Our annual business meeting will be in the first month of 2017.
Remembering “Daddy” Barnes
Following the meeting, Larry Scott, local storyteller, will present the life
and times of the beloved “Daddy Barnes.”
His name was John Clements Barnes, but those who knew him for the 50 plus years
he was associated with North Georgia Agricultural College (now UNG) called him,
“Daddy Barnes.”
He was a most versatile individual who taught math, ran the college farm,
supervised dormitories and dining hall, managed the college finances, and was
the engineer in charge of new construction on the college campus.
The students loved him and he returned their affection by giving them clever
nicknames, loaning them money for tuition and giving them jobs around campus so
they would be able to stay in school.
The public is cordially invited to attend, and share their stories and
recollections of “Daddy” Barnes.
