Due to an accident tonight's presentation is changed. The night's presentation is
on the Historic Unicoi Turnpike. It was a privately built roadway from the
Toccoa area through Helen and across from Murphy into Ft. Louden, TN, in the
first decade of the 1800s. It carried goods from the upper Savannah River to
the New American settlements in east Tennessee, and local produce from there
back to the east coast.
Dr. Jack Wynn will describe his historic and field research on the Georgia
segment of this roadway over the past several years Wednesday, June 17th, at 6:00 PM in the community room of United Community Bank on Hwy 52 in Dahlonega, Georgia. Visitors are still
welcome! |
