The Isabella T. Lynn Distinguished Service Award

For many years, Isabella T. Lynn (Bella) was a guiding light for the Lumpkin County Historical Society, designing our meeting format and making sure we had interesting programs. She suggested topics for research and presentation, and taught researchers how to make use of information from the County deed records.

Her many gifts to Lumpkin County include researching all of the historic buildings around the Public Square to qualify them for addition to the National Register of Historic Places. She wrote and printed walking tour brochures describing buildings on the Public Square, South Park Street, and the Hawkins Street Neighborhood. She made the brochures available to the Chamber of Commerce Welcome Center so that accurate information would be available to them and to the public. She donated a historical marker to the City emphasizing the importance of the “Public Square” as a place where citizens could exercise their freedom of assembly.  The Bella Lynn collection at the University of North Georgia demonstrates her commitment to historic preservation.
