Normal rectangular diving bells used in fast moving streams suffered from severe vibrations. In order to break the impact of the current wedges or boat shaped ends were proposed. The Chestatee diving bell has one wedged shaped end that would have faced upstream to break the current vibrations. Col.Pasley appears to be among the first to propose such an idea in the early 1850's
