Post date: May 12, 2015 1:0:45 PM

This month our meeting includes two topics:

1. The 2015 Eight Grade History Essay Winners Awards Presentation

In a departure from our normal procedure the Eight Grade History Essay Awards are being presented by themselves. Come see which eight grader came up with the best historical essay on a topic that impacts Lumpkins County History.

2. Appalachian Weaving

Jo-Marie Karst, Weaving and Textile Design Instructor in the Department of Visual Arts at UNG will give a brief history of weaving in Appalachia, and display printed copies of drafts from the Lorenzo Dow Davis collection and their translation by Barbara Miller. She will also bring three portable looms to the meeting. Each loom will be dressed in a different pattern from the Lorenzo Dow Davis Collection. Two recent UNG graduates, Laura Beth Tuttle and Leah Westberry, will assist in demonstrating the weaving process and answering questions that may arise while they are weaving. There will also be an opportunity for members to weave on the looms.

Admission is free so bring a friend.
