Post date: Jul 01, 2014 1:30:7 PM

Born in a poem during the American Revolution, this iconic female symbolized the people of the United States for over 150 years. Depicted in paintings, political cartoons, and patriotic posters, the image of Columbia was used to promote the ideals and virtues of the young republic. From caring mother to warrior goddess, Columbia reigned supreme until her transformation in the early twentieth century.

Lumpkin County Historical Society President Chris Worick, will present the fascinating story of Columbia and how she came to represent the embodiment of the United States of America. Come join us for this special patriotic salute to Columbia, on the eve of America's 228 birthday.

Our program will take place on Thursday, July 3rd at 7 pm in the Dahlonega Community House. The public is invited to attend.
