Dahlonega's First Phone Call

Timeline: 1881

"Today will be remembered as marking an epoch in the history of events at Dahlonega. The telephone company after much delay and many mishaps, succeeded this evening in completing the erection of the line from Gainesville to this place, establishing an office over the store of Sitton & Bro and are in communications with Gainesville and the outside world through their talking instruments."

Larry Scott adds that the telephone exchange remained over that store for many years and that the Meaders family owned and operated the telephone exchange.
