"Carrying off the Cherokee" by John W. Latty; Oct 11, 2012; 7pm @ Community House

Author John W. Latty, from Gainesville, will discuss his newly released book, "Carrying off the Cherokee, Buffington's Mounted Georgia Militia Company." A true account of one militia company which took part in the Cherokee Removal of 1838 often referred to as the "Trail of Tears."

Mr. Latty is a retired police officer whose family have lived in Hall County since 1817. He is an avid history enthusiast who has written four books. In 2007 Mr. Latty published "A Fine Body of Athletic Soldiers" detailing the history of the 11th Georgia Cavalry Regiment. This unit was comprised of NE Georgia soldiers and Company E from Lumpkin County.

John will have copies of each book available for sale and signing upon conclusion of the program. "Carrying off the Cherokee is $10.00" and "A Fine Body of Athletic Soldiers" is $15.00.
