Dr. Jack T. Wynn, Adjunct Professor of Anthropology in the Department of History, Anthropology, and Philosophy at the University of North Georgia, Dahlonega Campus, will tell us about the 2013 summer Duckett Site Archaeology project.

The Duckett Site was occupied by semi-sedentary Native Americans between AD 150 and 750. They made simple stamped pottery with four feet and used quartz chunks to support a fire while cooking. The Duckett Site people did not appear to be farmers, although most other sites in northern Georgia show evidence of agriculture at this time. The excavations were conducted by archaeology students of the University of North Georgia and members of the Blue Ridge Archaeology Guild of Dahlonega.
