July 1829.

Gold had been discovered in Georgia. Several thousand prospectors descend into the region looking for the precious metal. Their search takes the gold hunters across the Chestatee River into the Cherokee Nation. By the winter of 1829-30, miners have established a well defined path into the gold region. This historic route became known as the Gold Diggers' Road.

Chris Worick will present the findings of his research on the route of the Gold Diggers’ Road. Using maps from 1832, Chris was able to reconstruct the original route and overlay it on current maps of Lumpkin County. Mark your calendar to attend this presentation. Who knows? Maybe the Gold Diggers’ Road ran through your own backyard?

Visitors are welcome.
