Post date: Dec 10, 2013 6:32:39 PM

The Lumpkin County Historical Society, which does not hold a December meeting, will next meet on January 9, 2014 at 7 p.m. in the Community House on North Park Street. The program, preceded with a short business meeting that will include election of officers and directors, will be, “I Remember Dahlonega Through Anne Amerson’s Eyes,” an autobiographical sketch by our own local author and historian.

Anne was born in Dahlonega, attended its public school system, and graduated from North Georgia College (now the University of North Georgia). She met and married Amos Amerson at NGC and traveled all over the world with him in his military career. When he retired, they returned to Dahlonega and Anne began researching and writing articles for the Dahlonega Nugget about her hometown. These articles were later published in four volumes, entitled, “I Remember Dahlonega.”

Through the years, Anne has authored 9 books and co-authored another, “Stage and Screen: The Story of Dahlonega’s Historic Holly Theater,” with the late Kate Cassady. Her tenth book, published in 2013, “Dahlonega, Georgia; Site of America’s First Major Gold Rush,” is a remarkable, concise recounting of all the major events which has made Dahlonega famous as the site of America’s first major gold rush.

The public is cordially invited to join historical society members for this first hand account of growing up in Dahlonega.

Please come a little early and bring a plate of goodies to share after the program.
