The Lula Ash story will be the topic of the Lumpkin County Historical Society’s May 8th program, 7 p.m. at the Dahlonega Community House on North Park St.

Larry Scott, noted story teller, past president and current board member of the Lumpkin County Historical Society, will tell stories about the life of Mrs. Lula Ash who was a manager/operator of the Holly Theater . Mrs. Ash became a beloved fixture of the Holly moviegoers through her some 40 year association with the theater and is well remembered for the love and care she showed this Dahlonega landmark. When Dahlonega organized the Gold Rush Days Festival and selected a King and Queen to preside over it, Randall Holly Brannon, owner of the Holly, reacted with his own announcement. He placed an ad in The Dahlonega Nugget stating, “Dahlonega may have its King and Queen of the Gold Rush, but Mrs. Lula Ash is the Queen of the Holly.”

The public is invited to join LCHS members in remembering this colorful personality’s life and her often funny and touching experiences as mother, community leader, business woman and beloved legend.
