The FIRST Gold Rush Town: Auraria by Chris Worick; Thursday, June 13, 2013 at 7 p.m

Chris Worick will describe how a small ridge located about halfway between the Chestatee and Etowah Rivers grew into the first gold rush town in the United States. In June of 1832, William Dean built the first permanent structure on this site and within ten months, the town boasted over one thousand inhabitants (of all sorts) who were looking to strike it rich. Based on eyewitness accounts and newspaper stories of the period, Chris will present a fascinating picture of Auraria’s early days.
